Day 11 at Orphanage Emmanuel
I got up to realize I missed the big circle with all the kids for the second time. I will get there this Friday. I went into town with my mom because she needed to get supplies for a dinner she was making. She was making the dinner for a volunteer who needed to leave Saturday due to an unexpected illness her father had aquired. So we got back and my mother had me go get a blender for her for the meal tonight. Post blender run, I hung out with the guys for a little bit before I had to go to the clinic to relieve my mom so she could make the meal. I was to wait there until I was relieved by someone else so I could go eat some food as well. It was a good supper. My mom made a mexican meal. Juevos Rancheros, guacamole, and some other people brought various other items. Owen brougt some home made jello, pineapple and blackberry. A volunteer named Rachel brought Danish Pancakes, Krapes I think they're called. We dug in and we got to the Jello. I didn't have any yet but according to Owen after he tried some, the pineapple was good but the blackberry tasted like "paint thinner". So I tried some paint thinner and to me it tasted fine. But I do enjoy food so I wasn't phased. I then went to the MVH to play solitaire and watch Lady in the Water. That was an interesting movie.
Day 12 at Orphanage Emmanel
Rise and shine! Robert had left earlier that morning back for Kansas. I set myself to cleaning the house and doing laundry that morning. I did not want to but it wasn't going to get done by itself so I played some Village People from my iPod and danced away to the YMCA as I cleaned and put in some laundry. I'm going pro with my dancing. Anyway, when I finished doing what I needed to do I went to go to work. But before I did that another volunteer, named Thomas, showed up at the MVH so I showed him his room and gave him some advice. After that I stepped outside the MVH to find... no one. The guys were no where. I made a complete circle around the guys section on the orphanage and there was no one. Even Wade was gone. So I went to go talk to my mom to see if she saw a big mob of guys go anywhere. She did not but she gave me the Jurassic Park set from the FVH since there wasn't anyone. So I returned to the MVH and popped in a Jurassic Park movie and watched that until I needed to go to the clinic. I went to relieve Brittany and when she came back I went back to the MVH to watch more Jurassic Park and play more solitaire. Here's the beauty of watching a DVD. There are no repetitive commercials to interrupt! It was glorious.
Day 13 at Orphanage Emmanuel
Today I had to get up early to relieve Owen while Brittany did meds. It was hard work but I pulled through. When Brittany came back I went off to Sunday morning Church and heard a pastor from in town talk about "Giving your abilities to Christ". I felt bad for Long-Term Robert who translated for him. Robert couldn't fully translate what the pastor said before the pastor interrupted him and continued talking. Poor guy. Then we played chess at the gym. It went 4-2 Me vs. John and 3-2 Me vs. Christian. I gotta keep ahead of that kid. Bragging rights. Then I went off to lunch down at the restaurant up front. They were serving hamburgers and it was a happy day I thought. Well the actual meat patty was about a sixteenth of an inch thick and there were massive vegetables. I would have preferred a little more burger with my vegetables but oh well. Beggars can't be choosers. After, my meal I played some more chess and went home for supper. I've been making some noodles the past few days and that day I had pascetti, I mean spaghetti. Then we had a bible study and guess where it was? At the top of a very large hill. I was not a happy camper about that but when I got to the top I threw my arms up like Rocky at the top of the stairs. Personally I think climbing a hill is more manly than climbing some stairs but it was still a good movie. We did our bible study of "Finding time for Christ". and I went to the MVH and watched Rush Hour and a commercial for a show called "The Middle", for the millionth time. I made some more spaghetti for myself.
Day 14 at Orphanage Emmanuel
I had to get up hearly once again to go to the clinic. If you're really tired and you sleep in later than you should when you got something important and wake up 15 minutes before it begins you know how you are instantly superman and are moving at the speed of light? That was me Monday morning. I had my clothes on in roughly thirty seconds and was off to the clinic. I sat there and helped. I went to the clinic to help out for a bit and then I was relieved to go back to bed, until I was stopped along the way to get called to work. So I worked with the grass mowers (with a weed-whacker) until lunch. Then I went home to relax for a while and do some stuff before I had to go to the clinic to relieve Brittany again. Like I said, her and I are pretty tight now from me covering for her all the time. Post that, Iwent back home to make more noodles and watch my favorite tv commercials until Thomas said his girlfriend Therese was making some Danish pancakes, wait, this just in, they are called Krapes folks! So now that that's settled we went to go eat some of those and I learned how to eat them with I Scream on them... wait a minute. I mean You Scream. WE ALL SCREAM FOR ICE CREAM!!!!! If you couldn't see that coming then I'm sorry if I scared you. Anyway, those were better than plain noodles so I enjoyed those. We then went to the MVH and believe it or not, I didn't really feel like watching more repetative commercials. So I spent the rest of my evening writing.
Day 15 at Orphanage Emmanuel
Yesterday, yes yesterday, Thomas took off back for Denmark (that is where he is from). Im all caught up now. I had to get up early yesterday to let my mom sleep in for a bit. Funny how that works but I got up (not the superman wake up) with ample time to spare. When my mom showed up at the clinic I stayed for a while helping her out a little bit. Then I left to go back to the MVH to get some stuff (namely a hat and some bugspray) before I left for work. My mom kept my iPod to play with because there was only one kid in the clinic and he was for the most part, healthy. I headed back to the MVH and saw Josué and told him I'd be back in about 15 minutes to help him out with the guys he was working with. He said sure thing and so I went to get my stuff. When I came back he was up the road. They were pulling gravel back onto the road. Of all the boring jobs, this was the most boring. But, I can make almost anything fun and so we had contests of who could balance the shovels on their chin the longest. I could beat them on everything except the forehead and on the tip of the pinky finger. The tip meaning the finger was pointing upwards and the spade was balanced on the tip. I would've broken my finger if I did that I think. Anyway we got done before lunch so we sat in the shade of the gymnasium and waited for everyone else. When they showed up we went to lunch. More chicken soup, but I am happy to report there were no feet in the soup. I then went back to the MVH to help clean the house some more and do some yard work with Owen. I swept the whole house and that was a pain because I broke the broom, sort of. the actual broomy part was screwed on to the wooden bar and so all I had to do was screw it back on. But the thing went flying. Then we had a break for more food and I had an experiment. Owen had stepped on a cockroach a few days prior and as I came up to the MVH I realized that there were a long line of ants leading to one of the largest anthills I had ever seen. It was like the ones from the newer Indiana Jones movie. It was massive. So as my ramen was softening up in the water I took dead cockroach outside and set it in the middle of the ant line. It took exactly 7:03.4 minutes for the ants to start carrying the cockroach away. I then went inside to eat my food. After that we cleaned some more until about one. I was planning on going to the Main Office to blog yesterday but right when I was about to a massive downpour (monsoon) appeared from no where. All the doors in the MVH slammed shut due to the vacuum effect and it was kind of creepy. I said to myself as I was watching the rain,"Self, If you go outside and down to the main office right now you are going to get soaked like when you came back from town". So I cancelled my plans and watched the rain outside. This wasn't your romantic rain, this was your "WE BE TAKING ON WATER CAPTAIN!!!" rain. Luckily it only lasted about 20 minutes but everything was swamped so I stayed in the MVH for the rest of the evening. Owen and I watched tv and, remember I said I can make just about anything fun? We were watching the commercials when I would say something like "Ill bet that guy is a paintor" and what do ya know! The man says, "Oh Im not a doctor, I'm a paintor." So that was how we spent our evening and I made some Linguini with tomato sauce. I made the sauce from paste. Tomato paste, not arts and crafts paste. That was yesterday and now I'm all caught up! Haha I win.
