Day 16 at Orphanage Emmanuel
Wednesday, I got up to go to work. In truth, work came to me. The guys were mowing the grass outside the MVH so I just started helping them. Since we were so close to the MVH I went in after a while for a water break. It was then that my phone rang. Well, it wasn't my phone but it was one I was using at the time, rang. The phone number had the same first five digits as my mother's phone number so I answered and said, "What's up?". A guy answered in spanish and, even though he was talking a million miles an hour, I discerned four things: I'll kill you, something about money, I'll be at your house in twenty minutes, and don't call the fuzz. I told the guy that there are four things wrong with his plan. 1) I didn't know him, 2) I had no idea what he was talking about, 3) I had no money, and 4) I didn't live in Honduras and unless he was twenty minutes from my house in WISCONSIN I wasn't too concerned. Well then he realized that he had the wrong number and said he was going to kill me for knowing too much anyway. Okay... You have to find me first sir. Anyway after the interesting phone call I had to go meet up with mom at the clinic so that she could tell me when I needed to be there to relieve Brittany. I blogged a bit and then headed back to the clinic. The clinic was almost out of people. They had one kid left with chicken pox. I got there and there were now five. Fantastic. What more, two of them were toddlers. Even more fantastic. So I stayed and helped my mom when she showed up for her shift and I was dead by the time I got back to the MVH.
Day 17 at Orphanage Emmanuel
I got up and cleaned the house a bit. Then I went off to eat some lunch where I talked to Wade. Wade took me to the farm where they had built a corral. It was why they needed me to dig holes one day. There was a guy there who was painting it and I was to help him. He was a volunteer from Alabama and so we just talked and listened, and sang, to the "Moldy Oldies" because there were no kids around. Only christian music is allowed around the kids. After the corral I went back to the clinic to relieve Brittany until two other volunteers showed up. One of the volunteers told me to swing by the FVH to get some supper my mom made. So I "swung" by and got some very tasty soup my mom made. I then enjoyed it as I rehearsed my daily commercials at the MVH.
Day 18 at Orphanage Emmanuel
Today I purposely hauled myself out of bed early to go to my last chance at witnessing big circle before I left. What can I say about that, it was a big, and circular gathering of everyone. Different houses had to memorize chapters of the bible for the week and so I heard that. The kids got themselves into a rythem with the reciting. After that, I did some dishes, laundry, tv watching, and packing all at the same time before going over to the team volunteer house (TVH) to meet them to go in to town. I met them and they welcomed me to eat what remained of their supper so they were instantly my friends. Then the people and I took our trip into town where I served as Mister Translator Negotiator Man for the team. They stopped at every store in on the one street we were on and it took them from 1pm to 3pm. That was something. But I had to get back for the Final Countdown. So the team said if I had to go that was fine because they knew enough spanish to get them around. So I went back and went straight to John. I asked him my question and he said I needed to talk to Wade. Wade wasn't there at the moment so I went back to the MVH to collect my supplies and give the phone I was using to another volunteer. When I came back Wade still wasn't with the older guys but John let Christian off supper early. And so it began. After countless, thoughtful moves I bested Christian and that left everything 4-3 me for the year. After that I said my goodbyes and went back to the MVH to pack. I also pulled an all-nighter by myself because Owen was in the clinic. I was going to put some dishes away but I pulled open the cupboard to see two cockroaches, eh, getting busy, if you know what I'm saying. That is until they were "BLINDED BY THE LIGHT!" So I just watched movies and played loud music all night long to keep me awake. How I needed some soda.
Day 19 leaving Orphanage Emmanuel
At 4:30 in the morning I packed the last thing and headed out, saying goodbye to the MVH. All the memories we've shared. Ah, who am I kidding there were no memories. I headed down the accursed hill for the last time and was sir tripped-a-lot on the way down. I headed (in the dark mind you because there are no lights way out in the boonies where the MVH is) towards the FVH where my mom was waiting for me. We then headed into town (walking again) and waited at a bus stop. This was a different one. We weren't alone as it turned out. Three other volunteers had soon joined us on the bus. I stayed awake until we left then I KO'd. My mom woke me up and we got off the bus in Tegucigalpa. My mom caught a taxi and he drove us (thank God) to the Hedman Alas station where we then took the bus to San Pedro. We stopped halfway for lunch at the same restaurant oasis Jenny. But they cut the stop short due to their schedule and road construction. Seven Pounds was playing on the bus instead of Anacondas. But I slept on that bus ride as well. We got to San Pedro and were picked up by Luis so we could get to the B&B. We got there and mom and I dropped our stuff off before going to the mall so my mom could go shopping. After that we went to the two story McDonalds and two things were interesting there. One, is that the McChicken chicken patty was an oversized Chicken McNugget. The second, was that there was a birthday party goin on upstairs because there were roughly thirty happy meals on the counter, I assumed that the birthday boy was a middle aged man with his work colleagues. Anyway we went back to the B&B stopping at a clothes store on the way for mom and a little food store. Now we're just chillaxing and waiting for tomorrow to get back into the states to get home for a decent burger... Oh wait, that's just me.

All Caught Up
Day 11 at Orphanage Emmanuel
I got up to realize I missed the big circle with all the kids for the second time. I will get there this Friday. I went into town with my mom because she needed to get supplies for a dinner she was making. She was making the dinner for a volunteer who needed to leave Saturday due to an unexpected illness her father had aquired. So we got back and my mother had me go get a blender for her for the meal tonight. Post blender run, I hung out with the guys for a little bit before I had to go to the clinic to relieve my mom so she could make the meal. I was to wait there until I was relieved by someone else so I could go eat some food as well. It was a good supper. My mom made a mexican meal. Juevos Rancheros, guacamole, and some other people brought various other items. Owen brougt some home made jello, pineapple and blackberry. A volunteer named Rachel brought Danish Pancakes, Krapes I think they're called. We dug in and we got to the Jello. I didn't have any yet but according to Owen after he tried some, the pineapple was good but the blackberry tasted like "paint thinner". So I tried some paint thinner and to me it tasted fine. But I do enjoy food so I wasn't phased. I then went to the MVH to play solitaire and watch Lady in the Water. That was an interesting movie.
Day 12 at Orphanage Emmanel
Rise and shine! Robert had left earlier that morning back for Kansas. I set myself to cleaning the house and doing laundry that morning. I did not want to but it wasn't going to get done by itself so I played some Village People from my iPod and danced away to the YMCA as I cleaned and put in some laundry. I'm going pro with my dancing. Anyway, when I finished doing what I needed to do I went to go to work. But before I did that another volunteer, named Thomas, showed up at the MVH so I showed him his room and gave him some advice. After that I stepped outside the MVH to find... no one. The guys were no where. I made a complete circle around the guys section on the orphanage and there was no one. Even Wade was gone. So I went to go talk to my mom to see if she saw a big mob of guys go anywhere. She did not but she gave me the Jurassic Park set from the FVH since there wasn't anyone. So I returned to the MVH and popped in a Jurassic Park movie and watched that until I needed to go to the clinic. I went to relieve Brittany and when she came back I went back to the MVH to watch more Jurassic Park and play more solitaire. Here's the beauty of watching a DVD. There are no repetitive commercials to interrupt! It was glorious.
Day 13 at Orphanage Emmanuel
Today I had to get up early to relieve Owen while Brittany did meds. It was hard work but I pulled through. When Brittany came back I went off to Sunday morning Church and heard a pastor from in town talk about "Giving your abilities to Christ". I felt bad for Long-Term Robert who translated for him. Robert couldn't fully translate what the pastor said before the pastor interrupted him and continued talking. Poor guy. Then we played chess at the gym. It went 4-2 Me vs. John and 3-2 Me vs. Christian. I gotta keep ahead of that kid. Bragging rights. Then I went off to lunch down at the restaurant up front. They were serving hamburgers and it was a happy day I thought. Well the actual meat patty was about a sixteenth of an inch thick and there were massive vegetables. I would have preferred a little more burger with my vegetables but oh well. Beggars can't be choosers. After, my meal I played some more chess and went home for supper. I've been making some noodles the past few days and that day I had pascetti, I mean spaghetti. Then we had a bible study and guess where it was? At the top of a very large hill. I was not a happy camper about that but when I got to the top I threw my arms up like Rocky at the top of the stairs. Personally I think climbing a hill is more manly than climbing some stairs but it was still a good movie. We did our bible study of "Finding time for Christ". and I went to the MVH and watched Rush Hour and a commercial for a show called "The Middle", for the millionth time. I made some more spaghetti for myself.
Day 14 at Orphanage Emmanuel
I had to get up hearly once again to go to the clinic. If you're really tired and you sleep in later than you should when you got something important and wake up 15 minutes before it begins you know how you are instantly superman and are moving at the speed of light? That was me Monday morning. I had my clothes on in roughly thirty seconds and was off to the clinic. I sat there and helped. I went to the clinic to help out for a bit and then I was relieved to go back to bed, until I was stopped along the way to get called to work. So I worked with the grass mowers (with a weed-whacker) until lunch. Then I went home to relax for a while and do some stuff before I had to go to the clinic to relieve Brittany again. Like I said, her and I are pretty tight now from me covering for her all the time. Post that, Iwent back home to make more noodles and watch my favorite tv commercials until Thomas said his girlfriend Therese was making some Danish pancakes, wait, this just in, they are called Krapes folks! So now that that's settled we went to go eat some of those and I learned how to eat them with I Scream on them... wait a minute. I mean You Scream. WE ALL SCREAM FOR ICE CREAM!!!!! If you couldn't see that coming then I'm sorry if I scared you. Anyway, those were better than plain noodles so I enjoyed those. We then went to the MVH and believe it or not, I didn't really feel like watching more repetative commercials. So I spent the rest of my evening writing.
Day 15 at Orphanage Emmanuel
Yesterday, yes yesterday, Thomas took off back for Denmark (that is where he is from). Im all caught up now. I had to get up early yesterday to let my mom sleep in for a bit. Funny how that works but I got up (not the superman wake up) with ample time to spare. When my mom showed up at the clinic I stayed for a while helping her out a little bit. Then I left to go back to the MVH to get some stuff (namely a hat and some bugspray) before I left for work. My mom kept my iPod to play with because there was only one kid in the clinic and he was for the most part, healthy. I headed back to the MVH and saw Josué and told him I'd be back in about 15 minutes to help him out with the guys he was working with. He said sure thing and so I went to get my stuff. When I came back he was up the road. They were pulling gravel back onto the road. Of all the boring jobs, this was the most boring. But, I can make almost anything fun and so we had contests of who could balance the shovels on their chin the longest. I could beat them on everything except the forehead and on the tip of the pinky finger. The tip meaning the finger was pointing upwards and the spade was balanced on the tip. I would've broken my finger if I did that I think. Anyway we got done before lunch so we sat in the shade of the gymnasium and waited for everyone else. When they showed up we went to lunch. More chicken soup, but I am happy to report there were no feet in the soup. I then went back to the MVH to help clean the house some more and do some yard work with Owen. I swept the whole house and that was a pain because I broke the broom, sort of. the actual broomy part was screwed on to the wooden bar and so all I had to do was screw it back on. But the thing went flying. Then we had a break for more food and I had an experiment. Owen had stepped on a cockroach a few days prior and as I came up to the MVH I realized that there were a long line of ants leading to one of the largest anthills I had ever seen. It was like the ones from the newer Indiana Jones movie. It was massive. So as my ramen was softening up in the water I took dead cockroach outside and set it in the middle of the ant line. It took exactly 7:03.4 minutes for the ants to start carrying the cockroach away. I then went inside to eat my food. After that we cleaned some more until about one. I was planning on going to the Main Office to blog yesterday but right when I was about to a massive downpour (monsoon) appeared from no where. All the doors in the MVH slammed shut due to the vacuum effect and it was kind of creepy. I said to myself as I was watching the rain,"Self, If you go outside and down to the main office right now you are going to get soaked like when you came back from town". So I cancelled my plans and watched the rain outside. This wasn't your romantic rain, this was your "WE BE TAKING ON WATER CAPTAIN!!!" rain. Luckily it only lasted about 20 minutes but everything was swamped so I stayed in the MVH for the rest of the evening. Owen and I watched tv and, remember I said I can make just about anything fun? We were watching the commercials when I would say something like "Ill bet that guy is a paintor" and what do ya know! The man says, "Oh Im not a doctor, I'm a paintor." So that was how we spent our evening and I made some Linguini with tomato sauce. I made the sauce from paste. Tomato paste, not arts and crafts paste. That was yesterday and now I'm all caught up! Haha I win.

A Slow Start
Day 1 at Orphanage Emmanuel
I'd like to say that I was up and at em with the grass chopping and stuff of that nature, but it would be a lie to say such things. I was sick the first full day at the orphanage and so I slept until precisely 11am-ish. I then had to relieve mom at the clinic for a little while. Chicken pox was going around down here and before anyone asks, because I know you're all concerned about my health and well-being, yes I have had chicken pox. Anyway after that I went back to the MVH to cool down for a bit. Then it was back to the clinic because I had to relieve another volunteer named Brittany while she delivered meds to other kids. Her and I are pretty tight now because I have had to do this pretty much every day since I got here. Anyway, Brittany brought movies for the kids to watch and so the movie of the day was Shrek 2. Yes it was in spanish. After Brittany came back I went back to the MVH for the night. Owen, another volunteer named Robert, and I watched Clash of the Titans (bootleg), the old tv show Friends, and Two and a Half Men. Then I called it a night because even though it was only eight, it was midnight dark.
Day 2 at Orphanage Emmanuel
Today was the day that I was going to get up and do stuff. I got up, without breakfast (I've been living on about two meals a day since I got here so it's almost normal now). I went down and talked to Wade, the guy in charge of male volunteers, while the older guys were breakfasting or whatever you call it. I didn't dine with them because I remember the moon pies from last year and I felt like if I had another one I was gonna be sick. So I got into Wade's truck and we got some wire fencing, which is much heavier than it looks let me tell you. We then went over to the farm to move some boards that came in. Wade had to take care of some other stuff so he dubbed me Vice Assisstant General In Charge Of Certain Things before he left. That basically meant that I got to tell people where to put the boards. While we were working I heard some of the guys calling me a "Gringo" which roughly translated means "Whitey". That is sort of a teasing insult but I let it slide.
After we moved the boards a Wade took us over to the older guys dorms and we dropped off the wire and I was told to wait for another guy named Harrison. When he came, with three other guys, we began replacing the fence around the guys house. One of the guys, Josué, and I are also pretty tight because we are almost always working together. After that it was lunch time. Soup. Tasty.
I was then sent to dig holes to put flag poles in for a little while with a hole digger that was a piece of garbage before I had to relieve Brittany again. The movie of the day was The Incredibles. Still in spanish. After Brittany came back it was time for Wednesday night church so we went and heard some of the kids give testimonies. I then got to walk home in the rain. Lemme tell you something, Honduras' "rain", is wisconsins "downpour". Needless to say, I got wet. When I got to the MVH, after drying off, I watched Friends and Two and a Half Men with Robert. Owen was spending the night watching the kids at the clinic. Post tv time I showered and went to bed.
Day 3 at Orphanage Emmanuel
I was ready to go out there and help out again but once more I was sick. So I stayed home and wrote for a little while. I wrote words in case y'all were wondering. Around 10am I went to talk to mom at the clinic and gave her the news of my illness. She told me to stop by the FVH (Female Volunteer House) for some pasta later. So I left and I hung out with the guys and played some chess. Rather, I taught a kid how to play chess. I then went up front to the store to buy a snack. The older guys got some time in the gym that day so I played some more chess and then Robert and I went into town to get some food. Clouds had gathered in the distance and I told Robert that it wouldn't rain until we were almost home, just watch. Well we got our goods and on the way back to Emmanuel it began to sprinkle. Their "sprinkle" is our "rain". So we got into the orphanage and from the gate to the actual area of buildings is connected by a long road and while we were on this road, you could see a wall of rain coming down the road at you.
"I told you", I said to Robert as a Honduran downpour hit us. Their "downpour"? A "monsoon".
Robert hung by a volunteer group for a while at one of the houses and left me to become drenched alone. I stopped by the FVH for the pasta and went back to the MVH. I was soaking by the time I got their and Owen was on a laptop on the porch.
"I got wet", I told him and walked inside. After drying off I ate my warm pasta and watched Friends, Two and a Half Men, and Seinfeld. I then went to sleep.
Day 4 & 5 at Orphanage Emmanuel
I say day four and five because day five was a repeat of day 4. I was still sick so on I spent time cleaning the house a little, which was nasty and I dont recommend as a hobby. I rested some and went to the clinic to relieve Brittany, by now the number of children had grown exponentially, there were now around 10 kids in the clinic. After this I got supplies from mom such as medicine for myself, some cards (the FVH had a whole boxfull and the MVH had nothing), and a phone with which to call back home. On day 5 I called home and talked to everyone except Alina who was spending the night at my aunt Julie's. I went home after getting the medicine and I began to express my hatred of hills, not for the last time. There was not tv on day 4 or 5. Just bed.
Day 6 at Orphanage Emmanuel
I was feeling much better today and so I went down for the chess duel of the century. Christian was waiting for me and as I said I was ready. We sat down and began to play. The first game we did not get to finish as it was Sunday and so we had to go to church. Church was about living a Godly life. When we got back Christian and I sat back down. He ended up winning the first game. I said something along the lines of "alright no mercy", and continued to play. I won the second game and he insisted on playing a third. So we did and I won again. It was a good game that one because I was losing but after pulling a trick on him I beat him. I'm all about the tricks. So he said we were to play again. So we did and that game lasted less than five moves. That left us 3-1 me. I was feeling good about myself. But then I had to go back to the MVH to take care of some stuff and when I got back they were all in the gym. So we played basketball, soccer (well they played soccer, I don't know what I was doing), and we watched a movie. While playing soccer I took a ball to the chest. That knocked the wind out of me for a while. So I played chess with John and won all three games I played with him. I didn't have time for his games. I had to be back at the clinic to relieve Brittany and the movie of the day was Toy Story. All the movies are in spanish so I feel like I don't even have to say it. I then went home and watched Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with Owen. We came to the agreement that it was strange and the original was way better.
Day 7 at Orphanage Emmanuel
Since I felt better I was up an digging some more holes but this time for posts for a corral. I didn't have to use the chumpy hole digger this time but I did witness the killing of frogs that fell into the holes overnight. Wade has a thing against frogs. Once again, I was working with Josué and after a while a long term named David came by in his truck and told us that a kid escaped. So I ran with Josué and we went to the back of the farm to look for the kid. After a while we caught him and I was suprised to see that he was a kid who was diggin' holes with us. I also learned that Wade can yell pretty loud. Wade showed up at the scene and I could hear him yelling from across the field at the kid. Anyway, he was led away and I continued to help dig holes. Then it was lunch time and so I went back to the MVH to relax, then I played a little chess with John (3-1 me). After that, there was another volunteer meeting but this time they made donuts that tasted good but looked like potatoes and fried chicken with sprinkles. Post meeting I went home to chillax and watch Friends and Two and a Half Men. By the way, In the states while watching tv you might see, on one channel, one commercial the same, every other commercial break. Here its the same commercials every commercial break just in a different order. I have now memorized all the commercials on channel 62.
Day 8 at Orphanage Emmanuel
I was up and was mowing the lawn with a weed whacker before you guys were probably even awake. While I was mowing the grass with the weed whacker it came to my attention that, the jeans that I had found in a clean pile of unclaimed laundry in the MVH that I was wearing were a lot too wide for me. I realized that if I didn't get a belt on soon we were gonna have a major problem down here in Honduras. So I went back to the MVH only to find out that I didn't bring a belt. The only way to get one was to go into town. On the other side of the orphanage. So I walked through the orphanage with my hands in my pockets holding them up and into town this way. I was stopped along the way for handshakes and high-fives by many kids. This impeded on my progress. That means it slowed it down. I got into town and a lady stopped and asked me if I wanted to buy fruit. I hated to disappoint her and bought some. I was by now walking down the road wearing two shirts for space filling in my waistline, walking around like a cowboy with a hand where my belt-buckle should be, and a bag of apples. I walked into the first store I saw and bought a belt. The girl who was helping me asked if I wanted to try it on to see if it would fit, which was a smart idea because it didn't. So then I got one that did fit and I bought it. Now, with the immediate threat gone I went down the street some more to buy a hat as I forgot to bring one of those down too. I then went back to the MVH to relax a little. After I ate an apple I went to the clinic and helped bathe the boys while my mom cleaned up. Then it was home to my favorite two tv shows and seven different commercials.
Day 9 at Orphanage Emmanuel
I had to get up early today because today was the day we slaughtered the pigs. That was interesting. The butcher took a sledgehammer to its head to stun it then sliced its throat with a machete to kill it. We only slaughtered two and that took all morning. Packaging the meat anyway took all morning. So for lunch I went home to shower up and headed down to the soccer field because the Emmanuel girls team was playing a public school team from in town. The Emmanuel girls lost by one. The had good food though. Concessions I should say. Then for devotion time that the guys had after the game, John talked about loving your neighbor. Post devotion time I went to the MVH for a little while before I left for Wednesday night church. A team that came and helped with the pig slaughter did the service that night and some girls did a dance. The team did a skit that was awesome. It was fantastic. I loved it. Like, I'm a ninja so I don't cry, but that skit was pretty powerful. After this I went home to watch tv but mostly to recite commercials.
Day 10 at Orphanage Emmanuel
Once again I was up pretty early because we did some more slaughtering of the pigs. I didn't get to stay for all of it though because I was called to the clinic to serve as a translator for a girl with Bronchitis named, Erika. One of the guys I served as Mister Translator Man for was a nurse named, David. He explained to me that anything with the -itis ending is an inflammation of the root body part. so Bronchitis is actually and inflammation of the Bronchi which are part of the respiratory system. I thought that was pretty cool. Appencicitis is an inflammation of the appendix. Gingivitis, and inflammation of the gums. Anyway, after David took off Harrison was supposed to show because he was also a nurse and he was supposed to watch Erika but did not so I got to serve that shift even though I'm technically not supposed to. But I got tired so when the next person came I went MVH to relax for a little bit. After my relaxing time I helped mow the lawn some more and then it was back to the MVH for tv time.
Answer to Previous Riddle: One Cup, you took one away.
Riddle of the Day: A horse is tied up to a five meter rope in front of an old saloon. Six meters behind the horse is a bale of hay, yet the horse can go up to it and eat it whenever he pleases. How?
Getting in shape.
Hiya everyone! I have found a way to blog now all there is is to catch up by a lot. I'll explain it later but we first start with leaing Blanca and Luis'.
It seemed like I only got a few winks of sleep (how long is a wink?) but at three in the morning I was awakened by my mother and got in the shower. Last year I had typed that when I took a shower at Blanca and Luis' it was freezing... the times haven't changed. Needless to say I was up and at 'em after my shower, or so I thought.
Luis took us to the bus station (it was early so there was no breakfast and I didn't have to drink coffee) with a guy from Germany. He was going elsewhere but at least we had some company. Before I got on the bus I popped some dramamine because last year I got roadsickness and ended up taking some anyway so I figured save myself the trouble and pop one now... I was out before the bus took off. I know this because I woke up just as the bus was parking in Tegucigalpa and I thought we were just leaving San Pedro. So we got off at the station and wandered the streets of Tegucigalpa looking for a restaurant that could give cash for 500 lemps. We ended up going in a circle to get to pizza hut where I popped another dramamine pill and a malaria pill (they still taste horrible). After Pizza Hut we got on the bus to Guaimaca, oh and by the way we walked the streets with our suitcases. Whoever made my suitcase as durable as it is should be rich. Anyway, we got on the bus and headed off. I slept on this ride to but was awakened about halfway through to hear the voice of some guy preaching in the middle of the bus. I fell back asleep.
I was then awakened by my mom sometime later to the sound of my mother saying something to the effect of, 'Andrés you gotta get up now hurry up our stop is next lets go!' So I got up we went to the front of the bus and, wouldn't ya know, our stop was the one after the next one.... So after the rude awakening we got off the bus and since there wasn't a taxi, again we had to walk... all the way to the orphanage. This was like one end of town to the other. With potholes the size of my dog. Nonetheless we made it and I met a guy named Owen at the main office which was done this year. He showed me to the voulunteer house which, lo and behold, was way in back of the orphanage on top of one of the biggest hills I had ever seen, with a suitcase. Hills and gravel roads and suitcases dont mix very well so I had fun trugding up the hill. I was shown to a room that was occupied for the rest of the day as a volunteer was leaving the next day. So I unloaded my cargo and spent some time witht the little kids. We then went to their afternoon devotion and I sat right next to a kid who, later that devotion time, had a seizure. So I helped hold him back and that was that. He was fine afterwards and I see him walking around every once in a while. I then went to say hi to the older guys and I had supper with them. I almost missed the rice and beans... but something was missing. This year there were no rocks in my beans! That was fantastic! I also presented myself to Christian, the kid who beat me in chess last year. I was ready for him this year though. But we didn't get to play for a few days becuase after supper now they are locked in for the night. So I went back to the MVH (male volunteer house) and looked around the rest of the place. I was the only one there and so I looked around and saw a knife on a shelf next to what I thought was some dirt. I picked up the knife and my hand brushed along side of some of the dirt. It was then that I said to myself "Self, this isn't dirt, take your hand away now." So I pulled my hand back and after a closer look I saw that the "dirt" was in fact a pile of dead scorpians. That was semi-suprising. I realized at that time that I needed to be out of the scorpian house and at a volunteer meeting in the main office. We talked about jobs and I was just told to talk to Wade, the guy in charge of the male volunteers. I said I'd do it the next day and went back to the MVH to sleep, I just had to climb up the very big hill. I feel that before this trip is over I shall have legs of steel. So ends day one of being at the orphanage.

Honduras... land of humidity, crazy drivers, and good food.
Today was the day we left for Honduras. I gotta say I'm feeling a little better about this trip now that I know what's coming. Also you'll have to exuse my typing as I'm typing on a foreign keyboard. Anywho last night I tried to pull and all nighter so that I could sleep on the planes today because we had to ride three of them. I fell asleep ten minutes before I had to get up... Michalkiewicz you're weak come on! So I get up take a shower and finish packing, or so I thought. We left in the wee hours of th e morning, like the rooster wasn't even up yet, and headed for O'Hare. At O'Hare we checked in and I got my sunscreen taken away because it was in a gallon bag and not a quart or something because it might be a bomb. Personally, I don't think the bomb would care whether its in a gallon bag or a quart bag but ok. We got some breakfast at McDonald's and I am happy to report there was no half asleep employee there this time. I doubt she works there anymore. So we waited for, time until our flight took us to Cinncinatti. Our plane, was one of the most dinky, sad, pathetic things I've ever seen. It had three seats per row... not per side of row, per row. We got on the plane and I conked out before liftoff. I woke up just before landing thinking we were taking off. I'm slow.
So in Cinncinatti, we sat for two hours doing jacksquat. My mom did sudoku puzzles and I played my ipod in chess (I beat it!). We got some food because our next stop was Miami and I do not have fond memories of the food of that place. We took off and I was one with the Sleep. We touched down in Miami and found ourselves in a different airport, last year we went to Fort Lauterdale or something along 'dem lines and this year we were in the Miami airport. At the airport I checked for the price of earbuds because mine broke, 9.99!!!!!! And those were for the specialized M&M earbuds that I was thinking about getting but the standard ones were almost 20 bucks! To give you a picture, you can get the same ones at Wally World for 5 bucks, their Unbeatable Prices may help with that but still! So I passed on that, and moved on. We saw a dog in the airport as well as a cageless bird. There was a security guard with a sagway (I don't know how to spell that). We waited there for a little bit then got on the plane to San Pedro. It got very dark by the time we got there. We touched down and met up with Luis, the awesome guy who owns the B&B we went to last year. Now, I'm going to have to direct the following conversation to my dear cousin Jenny because she'll understand.
Hey, Jennifer so lemme tell you some stuff here. Yes a boy did come to take my bags this year and yes I gave them to him and you know what I did? Because I told him no and he took them anyway? I bent over (I'm moderately tall) and said right in his face "Thank you" and smiled as I got in the van. Ain't no kid gettin my money. So I thought I should tell you that. Yes it's very humid. Also, the people here still drive like animals but no they didn't use their horn nearly as much as they did last year. Umm, oh yeah! I found out that the chicken taco guy two blocks from Luis is closed on Sunday so that was a bummer. Oh and yeah I saw Texaco, Popeyes, Pizza Hut, and all the american places we did last year.
Ok readers, sorry about that but I knew Jenny was dying to hear about the little kid at the airport. Oh and by the way... McDonald's is a two story building. Yes two stories of Mickey D's. Let's see so after that we came to the B&B and, ooohh yeah Jenny they fixed the road infront of Luis'. So everything is hunky dori correct? NO! I found out that I forgot my camera, so Jenny I bought another memory card for nothing, I didn't bring a book, no DVD player, and I forgot my brain. Hopefully I was just kidding about that last one. Anyway thus sums up day one of Trip Honduras.
Riddle of the Day: To get into an exclusive club you need to know the password. You decide to listen from around the corner to hear what people say. After a while a man walks up to the door and knocks. A voice behind the door says "twelve" and the man says "six" and gains admittance. A short time later another man walks up and knocks on the door. The voice behind the door says "six" and the man says "three" and is let in. You, thinking you know the password walk up to the door and knock. The voice behind the door says "four" and you say "two" but are not let in. Why and what's the trick to the passwords?
